Surprised to see Chromatic Lantern on the cover. That card is so helpful in 3, 4, and 5 color decks

Sad to see the push to make decks lower CMC and faster. I get having decks that run faster, but to follow this philosophy in general is essentially just an arms race and REALLY limits your deck building choices. You wind up with running decks that feel generic. Support diversity of cards, keep things interesting.

That all depends on your play group though. Setting restrictions like making budget decks to fit in better and not running tutors tends to slow everything down. You can also just run all the hate cards to stop the insane amounts of ramp. Lavinia has become a real problem in my play group for that very reason

Gotta be honest... this is a tough video to watch. I love and play several of the cards you mention here. One of the things that brought me to EDH from other formats was the fact that you didn't have to have the most efficient card / deck to have an enjoyable game. I am very concerned about players being at a disadvantage for relying on less optimal cards, especially in the mana base, because they're not willing or able to put the money out for the best cards. The growing cost of MTG is a real issue. It also makes the power level conversation much more important... you don't want to be the one person playing Cabal Stronghold when everyone else has Cabal Coffers (and vice versa).

I use it in my Orzhov deck because we have several local players that like to mess with mana sources, but I can see why it’s not used as much overall.

Josh, you say 45% or 40% of people have a wheel deck, but your own poll shows that only 11% have one, and 13% have both, which would mean only 24% at most have wheel decks, not 45%.

Great video, if you play a lot of these cards and your games are fun then just take all of it with a grain of salt. But if you play these and are trying to win in your meta but find yourself losing more than 20% of the time look to upgrade a few cards in your decks.

Yeah. I misspoke in the moment. We did put the correction on-screen in the video version. -JLK

I mourn the death of the 3 mana rock. I know there a few in some situations that are still useful, but I have seen for myself anything that doesn't have a good enough secondary effect is worthless. I'm finding in many cases the mana dork is slowly meeting the same fate. 1 mana dorks are playable, and special dorks with special abilities are still seeing play in specific decks in my play group. But more often than not if a dork doesn't produce all the colors you use, it gets cut unless it produces more mana than it costs.

To me all the 3 mana rocks are very situational. An example would be Chromatic Lantern in a 5 color deck or Heraldic Banner if you play lotsa tokens.
