Just saw the card and I’m calling it, cEDH commander with mono blue stax/control shell allowing you to use your stax pieces are mana rocks. Dig-tutor for a drama-stick or rings combo to feed into Urza and put a lab man or Jace, wielder of mysteries into play for win.

Really excited to include this in my Sydri Lattice Deck!

@ Power Level from Wizards; I’m actually excited to see cards like this popping up more frequently. How it fairs for Commander remains to be seen (Linvala Keeper of Silence stops him if you can get her out fast enough and defend her), but for formats like Modern WotC “making a mistake” is far more likely to create a new deck than careful craft and balance. Exploiting design mistakes is basically the essence of competitive brewing. Urza is pushed, for sure, but there are some deck building constrictions. Mostly that if you can’t stick Urza your deck is full of junk. I might be wrong, I hope I’m not, but I also hope that even if he is completely broken that they continue to take chances like this with a card or two per set. Otherwise we end up with 25 iterations of “put a +1/+1 counter on this” like Return to Ravnica Block.

The thing is though if you kill Urza at least twice he becomes increasingly difficult to cast and if Urza is the one who is generating mana off of cheap artifacts you would have a problem.

Not going to build a deck around him but he is definitely going into my Brudies Lads deck!

Linvala doesn't stop Urza's primary power, which is its potential in mana generation.

the ability to tap all of your artifacts for blue mana before he dies exists. So tap in response to his death, and re cast him with floating mana. If he's countered however, yeah your correct about that.

does anyone think he looks a little like Tezzeret

I pulled Urza in my modern horizons box, and built a fun deck without a bunch of lockdown effects. Still very powerful. I played it with my play group a few days ago and we had a blast! I know Josh and Jimmy were concerned that the constsnt shuffling to use his last ability would delay game and make everyone else groan. I found a way around that by having my play group shuffle and reveal all the cards i was gonna play. They ended up making a game of who can reveal the most lands that i wont be able to play. All in all we had a great time.
