grannies cookbook - 14.01 (Patreon)

🚨 version 14.01 is now the latest version - please delete the old version! Be sure to check version when new foods are released 🚨

Please note - this update includes some of the progress I have made with making the cookbook compatible with the new lot trait. Recipes that have ingredients will now be locked with the lot trait if your sim does not have all the ingredients. This is not the final stage! I have yet to update each recipe with the new ingredients. 

You can monitor the progress of the recipes here.

If you have any issues with any other foods please use 📠 discord to report and for help.

Added translations:

  • support for toddler food (found under snacks) - please have highchair on lot.
  • option to name the cookbook and add a description
  • BBQ category
  • available to place into sim inventory - can be given as a gift (seasons)
  • 'snacks' section to combine drinks and quick meals (now referred to as snacks)


⭐ How to install and play: ⭐

  • download the newest package file and place into your mods folder 
  • download the recipes (separately) you would like and place these into your mods folder

    I organise mine like this

TheSims4/Mods/GranniesCookbook(folder) - place download in here.
I then have different folders for each recipe style inside the cookbook folder
eg.

  • meals
  • desserts
  • breakfast/grill
  • toddler food
  • snacks

 (grannie prefers her own folder to keep things tidy! plus it's easier to navigate) 

In Game:

  • you can find Grannies Old Cookbook in the small appliances section in the kitchen 
  • place the cookbook anywhere on your lot (I find the kitchen to be most suited) 
  • click to bring up the pie menu and have your sim cook 🍽️

Works best if you have 2 empty counters (or sims can have routing issues)

I'm not sure if it will work correctly (I can't see why it wouldn't) but with me making some edits to the package using a newer version of s4s it might have made it incompatible with older game versions.

With this version, you have to manually put the recipes in? they don't come already in there? What does the cooking skill level need to be?

Hi, yes you need to download the recipes separately. The cooking skill level varies for each recipe but most say in the description.

Thank you very much for the update ;) Well, I have a question: Since the beginning I find it so annoying that if a sim cook tea or coffee (more potions) can't invite other sims to drink like they do it with meals. Can you maybe create a little mod for this? I don't want to stress you and I don't have any experience with creating mods but maybe it's possible? I don’t keep the older versions I rewrite over them 😞 Do you still have the old version on your computer somewhere? You could try the version available on mod the sims but it’s only compatible for the recipes included in the download..

I have the updated book installed, but I cannot see the new recipes I downloaded such as the ox tails, chicken roti, smoothies, etc. But the old recipes are showing just fine.

Hi, make sure the old one isn't hiding somewhere as the game might be reading the old version still.. try clearing your cache as well :)

Hello. Did the other books have an iteractive food display case? When I deleted the old version, the display case I use went away with it.

Did you check that you don't have an old version hidden somewhere? Try re-downloading the recipes also.. if you send me a message with some more info I can try and help you more :)

Hi, that's strange.. the book doesn't have a food display case. Are you sure you didn't accidentally delete another file? Maybe the game bugged out and removed it from the lot for some reason.

hi! everytime i try to make the oxtail and rice recipe, my sim pulls the packaging out but acts as if she can't make it (waving hand in air like theres no room, etc.) but she makes everything else just fine.

Hi, I can't find the cook book anywhere in the build menu, do I need to remove all the recipes each?

Hello, for some reason the Medieval cookbook has also disappeared in my game. it is where I left in and it use to be there, but now it is gone. Did one of your updates to the new Granny's cookbook affect it. I really like this one for my dirt poor families, nothing like fishhead stew. Never mind it was my fault. I accidently deleted the need "tunings". Thank you for your wonderful mod. I need to update my pledge amount for all your hard work.

Hi, you will have to download them separately. At the moment the version on MTS is the same, so you could download it from there as a bulk version and then just keep an eye on here around the 22/23 October for the updated version :)

Hi, the recipes are still working and didn't need an update :) You can find a bulk download on mod the sims, but make sure to delete that cookbook and get the newest version from here. It may also be missing a few of the newer recipes so you will have to grab those from here too :)

Hi, they are under the snacks section. You need a highchair on the lot for the option to show up.

I have tried to make this work SO MANY different ways....if i make a seperate folder for grannies book my game doesnt find it. so it only works if it is directly in my mods folder and i have 3 folders with the receipies...but the recipies wont show up no matter what I do and I am getting so frustrated because normally I can figure these things out but I seem to have hit a wall and have no explanation why this is not working right. I reaaaaaly want to make this work because it looks SO AMAZING.... please help....yes my game is up to date and I used the 11.5 version.

Hi, I have the same problem. Most of the recipes are not usable because I do'n have an oven. It doesn't matter if I place an CC oven or an original oven. I have version 11.5 of the cookbook.

You may have another mod conflicting? I’ve had a few reports of similar issues but some have been resolved by removing another mod. As I can’t yet replicate the issue in my game I’m assuming it may be a bug/glitch with ea.

Reading the comments, CC ovens do not work that have custom tuning. They will need to be individually updated. Right now, LIttleDica updated some of the ovens. If the oven does not have custom tuning, if you're having issues, you will need to make sure to clean your mods folder. Update your mods, including trait mods, etc. Repair the game. The last thing that you'll want to do is get a new resource.cfg, however don't do this unless it's your last attempt to fix. Hope this helps.

Hello, I've tired making the pancakes and my sims like stop half way and it won't let me resume it or anything but just to throw it away and my sims skill level is like at 9. I don't know why it does it to only the pancakes ones?

Do they make it to the stove? If not, it sounds like you are missing the frying pan prop. Just make sure you have the newest cookbook version. (if you already do, delete and redownload just in case something went wrong when downloading!)

for some reasons, the recipes are not showing anymore...I have everything installed correctly including the most recent update 05.06. everything was showing up at first and now, its only about 3 things for breakfast showing, same for desserts but nothing else including toddler meals!

Hi, check to make sure you don't have a conflicting mod. If you have dine out gp, you could check to see if the foods show in a custom menu to see whether your game is reading the packages. Does your sim have a high enough cooking skill to show all the foods? Also you will need a high chair for toddler foods to show.

Just to be on the safe side i'm going to say it is likely to need updating along with all the recipes. There is a possibility it will still function but the recipes may not be compatible for group cooking. I will make a post when I find out the damage! x

Yes, there's a link in the description to most of them but they will all be getting an update soon for the new traits. They still work at the moment though so are safe to play with!

Can you still use this cookbook if you don't havee the Cottage Living pack? I know that it requires ingredients to cook and I have your newest version of the cookbook but when I try to use a recipe from it, it's grayed out and I can't do anything with it.

Ingredients aren't required, that's only if the lot trait is activated. Does it say anything when you hover over a greyed out recipe? Sounds like maybe your sim doesn't have access to the stove/fridge.

Ive downloaded the most recent book, and all the recipes like i was supposed too, ive been using your mod for awhile.. but when i try to go in and cook something only certain meals are available to me. i cant seem to get them to work, i even went and re-re-Downloaded them, and still nothing.

I have a question. Do we have to have the lot trait in order to use the recipies? I had not planned on using that trait so I wouldn't have to have the ingredients and I also don't use the cooking overhaul. So I'm confused about whether or not I can use this mod now. I hope so because I love it.

Hi, you don’t have to use the lot trait 😊 the top part where I mention the lot trait basically means that I haven’t updated each recipe to include the ingredients for the trait, but they all still work fine!

Hi ! For some reason my sim is only half cooking the recipes, I have enough countertop space and I’ve tried replacing the oven. Pretty much anything that has to be cooked on the stovetop or in the oven isn’t working
