Boston Dynamics' Spot was pretty obviously not responding to the person in real time. It had a script it was playing. It was as believable as the MST3K crew.

We're about ten years in to a "project" to do grade separations between the commuter rail in my city and the cross streets. Funding was approved by voters at the beginning of this project. SpaceX progress is an example of what can happen, when governments are not in charge. Similarly, we were about 70 years in to a 100 year plan to underground the communications and electrical utilities in town, when some administration decided it was too expensive or hard and abandoned the idea. The AI's are great at pointing you in directions that might prove useful, where you can validate or invalidate them. The problem is that apparently they have been set up to want to answer "yes" to almost any "can I" question, even if they have to make up the answer.
