Not many people know this, but the main reason C13 Color God exists, is because i wanted to release Something with the new Auto Exposure logic that i had made for AEGIS. Of course retrofitting C13 Camera Obscura proved too much of a hassle, but wanting to create some actuall added value, I created C13 Color God. Every single filter you see with built in color presets today, takes inspiration (and sometimes code directly as well) from C13 Color God. It was the first of it's kind, truly giving users never before seen functionality, all enabled by Pure and it's scripting ability. And C13 AEGIS carries a lot of that DNA as well. From color presets themselves, to glare profiles the CG signature is present all over. And that adventurous spirit is here once again.

Style

When we talk about stylized visuals, we're rarely talking just about color. Could be stylized world lighting, or the image processing itself that's stylized. And a style i really like is posterization. So it's now available in C13 AEGIS.

I love how this came out. Essentially all that's new is an optional step in the tonemapping that, depending on the input values, will quantize hue, saturation and value, into fewer discrete values, producing a posterization effect. Simple, yet very effective.

The Movies

Gotta love that filmic look right? To that end, more tonemapping level black magic has been employed. Adding per channel noise to the SDR converted image, produces surprisingly convincing grain in the image. There are issues such as banding in certain scenarios and a hue shift that i've yet to iron out, but for a first go, it looks really cool. Just remember that it won't really work for photos, and is likely to require a lot of bitrate for video. This baby is for your eyes only!
You know what film grain is, you get the idea.

Who doesn't like a good anime?

Last one owes a big thanks to x4fab and Peter Boese. On the C13 Automotive discord you can find a CSP scriptable filter that draws outlines on objects. This is a modified Cartoon filter that ships with CSP. Secondly, a long time ago Peter Boese showed how to link one of those filters to a pp filter script. And with that, C13 AEGIS 1.83 comes with an updated C13 Cartoon filter that can be controlled from the pp tab.

Combine everything and push in-game style further than was ever possible!

Other changes that have been done:

  • Renamed LCS mapping curve to Linear

  • Lowered diffraction ring strength based on feedback

  • Added "Aggressive" glare preset

As always thank you so much for your support, I wouldn't be able to do this otherwise.
