Officer Amanda Carter heaved herself out of the cruiser and into the noonday sun, cursing softly. Once upon a time, she'd loved the freedom of stretching her legs. Once upon a time, she'd practically jumped at the chance to leave her cruiser and do some community policing, get a little exercise and sunlight.
