Hey guys, we are going to start doing some shorter videos about little fun things we find starting right now. These are not replacing anything else and will NEVER be "Patreon Supported", so do not worry about being charged for them. Ever. I swear. They also will not be pieces of content cut out of our normal long series...ie. we won't omit little parts from a video we shoot over a weekend just to split them into little videos and spread them out. We still are very much interested in making our other long form videos as we always have as they are without a doubt the most fun for us. In fact as you'll see at the end of this video my goal is to make new viewers aware of our longer series and my primary goal is to get them interested in those videos.

To detail the purpose of these shorter videos: We want to give a bit more content to people who enjoy our videos and also to try and drive more viewers to our channel. We have noticed a dip in the rate of new subscribers and while it can be attributed to a lot of things (Youtube making algorithmic changes *ahem*) the one thing we have control over is lowering the "barrier of entry" to our channel by making some shorter videos. As a viewer of Youtube I am personally hesitant to click on a 45min+ video of a creator I know nothing about, but once I learn to enjoy their content I become excited by longer videos. Hopefully by putting out some shorter videos from time to time we can help others who would enjoy everything we make find us.

In an effort to keep videos short and editing time possible "endcards" will be different. You can see in this video an example of what we will be doing, we are aiming to make them around 20 seconds long and just plug our longer video series. Of course all other videos will still use the endcard format we have been using for the past couple of months with the Q&A sessions.

If you have any questions or concerns let me know in the comments. If you have any other ideas you'd like to share on ways we could self-promote without being obnoxious I'd be interested to hear those as well.

As a sidenote, we really don't like clickbait. We are going to try really hard to walk the fine line between "worthwhile content" and clickbait trash. That said there is a reasonable chance you may see me in a bikini in the thumbnail at some point. Tits and teeth, afterall.  -Eric

While I agree with you on the belief in avoiding clickbait, I have a suggestion for you that sometimes can devolve into clickbaitiness if you really exploit it. Make a few list videos. I am planning on travelling to Japan this summer and I have very similar travelling tastes to you all, but at this point I am overwhelmed at the number of places to visit and things to do there. I would appreciate a few videos on "the best cities/prefectures to visit," "top ten sights in Japan" or "the best neighborhoods to visit in Tokyo." I could, of course, just ask you a few questions, but I think it would be a good idea to increase the exposure of the channel. You could even edit in your visits to those places with annotations so that people could see more.

Not a bad idea! The hardest part is picking things like this! When we made the "Our Five Favorite Moments" video we had a heck of a time weeding it down to just five, haha.
