Kinda interesting how some parts of Japan allow certain types of smoking and not others. Is that a thing everywhere?
Neat bridge.
Glad I could catch some colors before winter swallowed them all.
The bamboo forest is really a sight to see, glad to see it without huge crowds.
Attempting a selfie thumbnail. One of many lol.
The mixture of fall colors and bamboo was a unexpected delight.
Strap in for some more tree photos haha
There were berries too! They always look so tasty but then you know....death.
This looks like it'd be simple to read, but it's hella hard to read. But I have an app that can somehow read this stuff! Magic!
Neat sun vibes.
I hate to imagine what prompted this signage.
Classic girls in kimono at a tourist spot.
Don't bring those bells, they'll get you!
Various ways of saying "don't fuck with the monkey."
POP!
I love lanterns like this in specific.
I don't fit in buses.
Not joking around with that sugar!
Here's my attempt to "paint with moving light." I want to get better at photos, but I have a long way to go haha.
Neat tree.
Kyoto Tower is...not a favorite structure of mine, but this makes it kinda neat.
These lanterns are neat too.
There were a bunch of these signs outside of a temple. This was says "The dead awaken the Buddha inside of me."
Hey.
Hay.

You mentioned using an app to translate Japanese into English, what do you use? I’ve used Google Translate but it can be a bit sketchy.

Oh, the app I was talking about is like an OCR reader for old style Japanese hand-written text, but it only turns it into actually legible japanese text, it doesn't do translation. A Japanese friend showed it to me when neither of us could read some stuff lol . There is no "perfect" machine translation, especially for English to Japanese yet. I could talk extensively why, but the sort answer is: the way each language represents context within itself is incompatible. That's a lot of why google translate fails. That said, google translate does a decent job of OCR reading "standard" Japanese, which is handy! -E

I really enjoyed your trip to Kyoto, Eric! I recognized several of the spots you visited from my trip years ago unfortunately I never made it to the Bamboo Forest. I remember how huge the Train Station was with this series of escalators which took you to the top observation area. I could look down on the tracks and watch the trains. Kyde, I received my postcard yesterday and just watched you tell the story. I thought it was really funny as I could just imagine all the mess in the room not to mention the smell!! What did Mom and Dad have to say about all that? I can imagine that too ha ha ha ! Thank you Kyde, Eric, for the wonderful card and videos, take care, have a great weekend!

Thanks Larry, glad you enjoyed the videos! I think a lot of people remember Kyoto Station, it is a pretty amazing huge building. Really unique, even in Japan. Also glad you enjoyed Kyde's duck story, haha. She says her mom "wasn't thrilled." hahahaha. -Eric
