Huge news for us here! Kyde had applied for Japanese permanent residency a few months ago knowing she would be eligible for it at the 10 year mark of our time living in Japan. Welp, apparently they processed the paperwork literally on the day of our 10 year Japaniversary b/c we got word today through the mail her PR application was approved. It's hard to express how awesome this is, it takes away mountains of stress from our lives here.  In a sense it's as close as one can get to becoming Japanese and having the rights of a normal citizen here without actually changing nationality, which is super rare. So we don't have to worry about something happening with her job and being kicked out the country, we don't have to get special permission to work side jobs or well...any jobs at all...employers see us as much less paperwork and hassle to hire...there are endless benefits. Anyways, we are over the moon, this is blowing our minds haha.

We had totally expected to be denied after talking with immigration lawyers who were "pretty sure" they will deny us over the 6 months we were out of Japan when we were in Europe, despite Kyde continuing to work for a Japanese company and pay taxes in Japan during that time. In the end we found one lawyer who was much more understanding of our situation and told is it didn't hurt to try, so give it a go. She was right and it worked!

Anyways....yay! hahahaha
