When in a foreign country, it's natural to expect things to be different to home. But have there been things that caught you off guard (either in a good or bad way) because you simply didn't expect them to be different? One example of what I mean is Eric having a mild fascination with the toilet roll holder in one of your Japanese apartments because of the clever way it worked.

In addition to Tochigi, do you have any other places in Japan you like for viewing the fall leaves?

Typically anywhere in the mountains is pretty stunning. A friend lives up in Miyagi and says that's the best in Japan, but Kyoto also can be pretty amazing too, especially with the setting. -E
