Hello there! This week we're diving into the ~rumors~ about Cary Grant, from his relationships with fashion icon Orry Kelly and actor Randolph Scott to his flirtation with Arthur Laurents to the denials and confirmations from his family and friends. Also! A little peek at my next video, which is about the strange 20-year journey of a sweet little drag-queen family comedy, from a silly French play called La Cage Aux Folles to a major motion picture called The Birdcage.

Here's a backup link for the video: https://vimeo.com/mattbaume/carybonus

Nathan has spoken about the Oprah interview and that it felt like she was trying to out him but Robin sensed his discomfort and jumped in to divert the conversation https://metro.co.uk/2020/02/08/nathan-lane-recalls-robin-williams-protection-oprah-tried-live-tv-12205933/

Zardogs! Zardogs!

That's a great link. I didn't realize he wasn't out when Birdcage came out. I just assumed, which is what he was kind of hoping for. Robin just doing a good thing, as usual.

There's a great interview with Betsy Drake in Cary Grant: A Class Apart where, when asked about the Cary Grant gay rumors she responds "I don’t know, we were always too busy fucking for me to ask."

I always thought it interesting that Cary and Randolph met on the film "Hot Saturday" ;) My ex was named after Randolph Scott. Randolph grew up south of me in Charlotte NC and was good friends with my ex's father who owned a music shop there. Randolph aspired to be a cowboy singer like Gene Autry. My ex's father was a session musician in Nashville before then and would talk to my ex's father about how to break into the music business.

Love your channel!! I'd love to have you do investigations into Roddy McDowall and Ken Berry. My late husband's former boyfriend lived in West Hollywood and was hit on by Ken Berry at a gay bar long before he was famous. Ken would talk about wanting to be the next Fred Astaire. I've heard rumors that he and Roddy were an item once, but that it won't be revealed until Roddy's diaries are available in 2080 (by then who will care) ;) I do think Carol Burnett was the Liz Taylor of the tv world, protecting her gay friends like Ken, Roddy, Jim Nabors etc.

Carol once had Ken Berry AND Roddy McDowall on as guests together in an episode featuring Cole Porter's music. You can find clips of that on youtube.

In regards to discussing Cary Grant's sexuality, I'm surprised you haven't mentioned this scene from "Bringing Up Baby". Jump to 1:25 to see what I'm talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7Tu7ybU54g

Hey now, playing triangle can be a challenge! One of the most terrifying experiences I have had as a musician was subbing in the percussion section of the Northwest Wind Symphony and having to play the triangle part for the Overture to Candide. I thought I was going to pee all over the floor of the community college in Centralia. Playing a roll on the triangle is no joke, hahahahaha

I agree with you about Scotty Bowers. I read his book and had to take all of it with a grain of salt. Everyone in the book that he out's has passed away. it's just his side of the story. There's no way to verify any of it. I'm surprised anyone would publish his stories.
