Hello there! This week I've got a bit of a Seinfeld mystery, or a The Nanny mystery, or a little of each. At one point, Fran Drescher was hired to fill in for Estelle Harris, who played George's mother -- and although I'm very glad that she was the actress they went to, I can't for the life of me figure out how she wound up being the person they chose. Also this week, I've got some fun details about America's gay uncle, Charles Nelson Reilly. And also a very sweet real-life love story about Ben Stiller's mom and dad!

I assumed that maybe Jason Alexander and Fran Drescher knew each other and that's why she was chosen? Jason Alexander did later guest star on The Nanny. This is only my silly fan theory!

Her timing is much slower than Estelle's, probably not helped by the fact that you can see she was reading sides in the scene. Anne Meara was a regular in another bar show, Archie's Bunker's Place, the continuation of All in the Family. Jerry played her ex-husband in that and he didn't help her character's battle with alcoholism.

My guess is that the friendship Rob Reiner and Larry David have overlaps with the circle of folks they've worked with (particularly those of performers they admire). And they're all New Yorkers...they stick together. ;)

Oh my GOD I think that's it -- I forgot she was Bobbi Fleckman in Rob Reiner's movie This is Spinal Tap; and then he started Castle Rock a year before they did the Seinfeld pilot. I cannot BELIEVE Fleckman has struck again!!!

Ohh that's a good point about Jason guesting on the show later. I wonder what sort of friendship they might've had!
