Hello Patreon members!

Thanks thanks thanks for all your lovely support here on Patreon -- as a backer, you get a little sneak peek at the stuff I'm working on in patron-exclusive videos, and I'm so excited to show you what's coming in the next Culture Cruise. (And if you can't see the above video, you can watch here: https://vimeo.com/473242637/7cd146a07a )

My next Culture Cruise video's going to be all about the show Roseanne and its controversial mid-90s kiss. When producers announced that they planned to have two women kissing in an episode, ABC freaked out and there was a huge behind-the-scenes fight that threatened to cancel the show altogether. Same-sex kisses were almost completely forbidden on TV at the time, but the producers found an amazing way to break the rules and get their way. Kiss kiss!

Plus, there's a fascinating connection between the show Roseanne and an almost-totally-forgotten experimental show from the 70s called "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman," which was one of the first to ever show a gay couple talking about getting married.

That Culture Cruise should be ready in the next day or two, and patrons at the $10+ levels will get early ad-free access to watch. Thank you again for all of your support on Patreon, and I can't wait for you to see this upcoming video!

I can't believe that I know every single show that you talked about. And I liked Mary Hartman!, Mary Heartman! Also all that gitters. But only saw one episode. I grew up in the south and I'm still not sure why they ran almost all of these shows. But it was fun watching 👀 them. Really looking forward to seeing this video

Haha, I have an odd affection for those shows -- I love that they exist because they're so weird, but I don't love watching them because they are sloooooooow.

Looking forward to it!
