This week on the Cozy Pants podcast, James and I have a bone to pick with Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber about this Love Never Dies musical -- a sequel to Phantom of the Opera that has everyone saying, "why?" We muse about a handful of other musicals, some of which are actually good. Listeners have written in about udders, among other topics, as well as Polari and strange gay catch phrases of the mid-20th century. And does Tyra Banks actually think the dictionary is written by a woman named Miriam Webster?

Oh dear, I have so many thoughts on the Phantom discussion. I’ve never seen the sequel and now I never will. It’s noncanonical fiction as far as I’m concerned. I’ve always sympathized with the Phantom and never really felt like there was a romantic connection between them. It felt to me more like the Phantom viewed Christine as a pet/daughter to obsess over. Now I’m examining my own internalized misogyny. In college I took a counseling psychology class and the big paper was writing a case study and treatment plan for a fictional character. Guess who I chose. I would have had a VERY different approach if Love Never Dies had existed. Google image search “mare bag wax” (no quotes).
