Hello friends!

Okay, BRRRRR, how is it this cold already? We're solidly into indoor-weather these days, which means a lot more time for me to hunker down and write, record, and edit stuff for you -- and also to send you backer-rewards! I'm attaching a pic of me at the post office sending out the latest round of care packages.

I know it's been a while since the last Culture Cruise, but ohhh boy I'm just putting the finishing touches on a new video that you're going to love. Plus I'm working on a whole much more this month that your backing makes possible:

  • Livestreams! Come say hello, share your recommendations for stuff to watch, and make friends in the chat! I love getting your entertainment suggestions & can't wait to talk about all of the queer entertainment that’s lighting up your life. This month's livestreams are happening on Saturday, November 16 at 9am Pacific; and on Saturday November 30 at 9am Pacific. Click the bell here to get a reminder when we go live.
  • The Sewers of Paris! Each week on the podcast, a guest plucks a piece of entertainment from their past -- books, movies, music, shows, and more -- and answers the question: how did it change your life? Recent highlights include Liam Esler, who's making creating an interactive adventure-musical; Showgirls expert David Schmader; and queer historian Devlyn Camp.
  • Culture Cruise! All backers get early ad-free access to Culture Cruise videos, taking a deep dive on queer content in the entertainment we love. I'm working on a script about Frasier and the 1990s -- this might be the most expansive video I've ever done, touching on a full decade's worth of sitcoms!
  • Cozy Pants! A podcast for Patreon backers at $4/month and up! Join me and my partner James for a fun affectionate chat about the cultural comforts that are lighting up our lives. We also respond to your questions, such as Joanne's recent request that we prepare her for seeing Les Miserables for the first time.
  • Weekly Debrief! Get caught up on the latest LGBTQ news, how it affects you, and actions you can take! Weekly Debrief is your quick roundup of everything you need to know about what's happening with queer people in the world, and how you can help.

And! If you're in Seattle, I'll be participating in a panel discussion on November 21 at 7pm on marriage equality. It's part of the premiere of the new musical “Gaybaret: An Offering of Story and Song” at the Kay White Hall of Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA). Details are here.

Also Thanksgiving, for heaven's sake, is coming right up on November 28! I was thinking I might do a big queer livestream that day for everyone to pop by and say hello and spend time with LGBTQ+ positive environment, since a lot of us will have to spend the day with less-than-friendly family. Let me know if a livestream on Thanksgiving is something you'd enjoy!

You might also enjoy this interview I did with Matthew Riemer and Leighton Brown, who run the LGBT_History instagram account.

Thanks again for backing so many video, audio, and livestream projects. I couldn't make any of it without you, and I'm so joyful to have you along for this great big queer ride.

Matt

As someone whose roommates are leaving for Thanksgiving while I stick around, I wholeheartedly support a Thanksgiving livestream!
