Family, we can’t believe this needs to be said, but submitting your private RSS link from Patreon on Spotify using their “submit your podcast” feature IS NOT OK. We’re sorry that Spotify doesn’t support adding a podcast by RSS feed to your own account, but we have no control over that. The solution is not to just pretend the feed is your own show and submit it to Spotify that way.

We've never been sticklers about Patreon subscriptions. We understand if folks need to subscribe, listen to the Patreon stories, and then unsubscribe until there are other stories to listen to. We know some folks share their login with their mom or their best friend or whoever so y'all can enjoy the stories together. We don't mind.

This, on the other hand, is a whole different level. Releasing our exclusive Patreon stories — the stuff that pays our bills and feeds our families — to Spotify's millions of listeners for free (not to mention allowing Spotify to profit off our work without compensating us even more than they already do) undermines our ability to make a living. We are almost entirely listener supported (ads make up less than 1% of our income).

We've said it before, but it bears repeating. We could not do this without our Patreon supporters. We love and appreciate you, and we hope this was simply a mistake made in ignorance. We're telling you about it so that others don't do the same thing. The person who submitted their link had to be removed from our Patreon, as that is the only way we have to disable an individual user's private link.

Are you ever planning to connect your membership to Spotify? One of the other podcasts I listen to has a Patreon feed on Spotify that is locked behind paywalls. It makes it so much easier for me to listen to my podcasts at work or while I'm driving because I don't have to manually tell it to play the next episode or search for it again when the Patreon app reloads/refreshes. And I'm a big stickler for listening to things in order.

You can use your own personal link for the RSS feed in the Apple Podcasts or Google Podcasts app if you are looking for the feature to just play the next episode (Google Podcasts also has a web-based player for convenience). That way it stays private to you and they can still garner their following on Patreon. Also, since things are now in the Collections tab, it's much easier to play the next episode when you finish the previous. The comments here offer some good suggestions <3
