Ryuuji Gremory

One subtle thing, when he was healing Sara, he might have looked at her body, but there was no inner voice getting all happy about it, usually in those situations back in S1 we would have heard him perving on her or at least commenting it in his mind, same with when he caught Sara’s fall and happened to touch her boob. I feel like the comparison between Soldat and Paul in his youth is pretty fitting and it’s definitely intentional, sure he can be an asshole but it’s not like that’s all an he is obviously well respected by his party even if they know he has problems. He might get out of control when drunk but that is also quite fitting for Paul, we have seen him losing control and getting violent, we have seen him fleeing into alcoholism, and we know he did some pretty shitty things in his youth, with the worst being raping Lillia to take out his frustration on the other guys at her families Dojo. Just like the author intentionally put in just enough similarities to Eris into Sara to make Rudy project Eris onto her while still keeping Sara as a clearly distinct character with her own personality, background, worries and struggles (hoping next week brings something of that up). E.g. There is this obvious "Tsundere" comparison but if you actually look at it, if Eris, when she first met Rudy, was in Sara's case in the last episode, she wouldn't have yelled at Rudy, she would have beaten his face in. Also in Ep.1 Sara wasn't putting on a Tsundere act to hider her feelings or embarrassment, she simply truly didn't like Rudy being there, saw him as some spoiled reich kid playing adventurer while acting like no one is as misfortunate as him. (The Greyrat name indicates that even if he was from some remote branch family he is at least somewhat well off, or rather the fact that he has a last name at all means he is at least better off than Sara's family was, she doesn't have a last name, she is just Sara.) So while this Tsundere look is done intentionally to make Rudy's projection work, if you actually look beyond the surface the similarities fall apart.

Apparently Rudy named his legs Tindalos and Baskerville and his arms Hulk and Hercules. Had to look that one up - I thought he was just talking to his knees at first. Strange young man :-) Nice episode. Thanks for the reaction.

Quagmire is the name of the spell that creates a swamp, Rudy uses it a lot that's why they call him by that nickname

Meta note: this episode currently has the S1 tag (Jobless Reincarnation) instead of the S2 tag (Mushoku Tensei S2), so it doesn't show up in the S2 list.
