Hachiman and Hayama are really excellent foils to one another. I also love their dynamic. I find it pretty great that their ability to be cordial and smile despite mutual hatred for one another kind of turns out be "something genuine" in its own way.

My interpretation of Hayama's hatred for Hachiman and his inferiority complex is due to the fact Hachiman has his own will that isn't bound by the expectations of others. He is capable of projecting something genuine about himself to others and yet he is able to have friends and even thru his underhanded methods.. he has been able to help others. Hayama due to being forced as this ally for everyone has no real ownership of his own path. Him keeping his future career to himself is his own way of choosing to be selfish for once and think of his own path. While also choosing to finally trust in the bond of his clique, that even if they seperate.. they have something genuine keeping them together as friends. Essentially freeing them from being his followers that he keeps close to his chest, and allowing them to grow and develop as people on their own and believing that they will all still be friends at the end of the day long after high school. The fact that this change in himself and his friends is due to Hachiman's influence thru the observations of his relationships with Yukino and Yui must be another kick in the nuts tho lol. Its been long implied since S1 that Hayama, due to being everyone's Hayama, was unable to step in and save Yukino from bullying and false rumors back in the day. He's known Yukino for a long time and has always known that stubborn cold ice queen side to her. I feel like Hayama's surprise at the ending scene with him noticing that Yukino has changed.. its the fact that she has grown to acknowledge help. The fact she thanked Hayama of all people for worrying for her sake.... that's a big step in her development. S1 ice queen Yukino would have never admitted that.
