TBF, Roswaal's love IS a delusion. After all, as has been shown and indirectly stated, Echidna is literally a sociopath, so it's not like she'd ever actually even be capable of feeling true emotions as it is, thus she would literally never be able to reciprocate his feelings. Based on how their 1st encounter went, I'm 99% sure she also partially did the events in that way specifically to manipulate him from the get go (in addition to saving him from mana overload shit which can be fatal if it progresses too far, but everything she does generally has like at least 2-3 layers, if not even more), like how she manipulated Ryuzu by playing on her willingness to sacrifice herself for the ppl inside Sanctuary, simply by temporarily acting like "oh no, it'd be a bad thing and I'm wary of suggesting this", while knowing full well she'd agree to it and this would make you look better even tho you just tricked her into doing what you wanted
