100% Elaina's mom is a Great Witch who fell in love with a commoner and gave up her wanderlust to start a family. How else to explain all the books, astronomical maps, and anatomic skeletons that fill up their home? Previews made me think this was less about the witch's hero's journey and more about the people she met along the way. I'm far more interested in traditional narratives so I'm pleasantly surprised we started with an sweet origin story.

I enjoyed the story but mainly just the visuals, it's a super pretty anime to just appreciate, very movie-like almost.
