The glowing colored cubes are the lighthouses. They're operated by the lightbearers. We've seen them float, but among other things, they can change size. In the previous episode when Khun and Rachel were on their computers doing research ahead of the game they were actually inside their lighthouses. The more talented a lightbearer is the more lighthouses they can control. Beyond the uses we saw in this episode they're most commonly utilized as battlefield surveillance. The lightbearers are often the leaders of any team, a position Khun likes to be in.
