Rudeus is still training with the sword, he paused the routine during his travel with Eris, but once he started training it found it's way back into his daily training routine. That said he hit a wall that he is incapable of overcoming. It was skipped in the anime last cour but Swordsmen in this world naturally shroud themselves in a form of mana called Touki or Battle Aura. It's what makes their superhuman feats (like Paul cutting through a boulder with a wooden sword at the start of the series) possible and it doubles as an armor making their bodies ridiculously durable once they master it. Rudy has a condition that makes him completely unable to use Battle Aura so no matter how much he trains he will never reach those superhuman levels, so even though he kept up his training all those years he never made it past intermediate rank. (being able to use Battle Aura consciously is the wall between Intermediate rank and advanced rank) Luke is technically capable of using Battle Aura but he too never made it past intermediate rank, a combination of lack of talent, different upbringing and lack of experience. So to Rudy with his experience hunting monsters on the Demon Continent or facing the likes of Eris or Ruijerd in sparring matches or fighting that North Saint or Orsted, Luke looks really slow to him.

I imagine you read the LN from what you put here, so did Rudy use his Demon eye in this duel? Anime didn’t seem to indicate he did, nor did it say he didn’t. Technically it wouldn’t be use of magic, just mana, right?
