I imagine an alternate demon who gets really self conscious about the “minions screaming in existential agony” and lays up at night pondering ways to make the ritual less awful. Not this guy though. “Cheer up, the torment is only temporary, but the respawning lasts a thousand lifetimes!”

I would never expect anyone to know, but this fellow comes from one of my old comics "I can be a princess". Fate demons are akin to lesser gods of that world, and they are as terrible as they are cunning. They prey on weakness, ignorance, and tragedy to get what they want through making deals. Yuu Eye is the worst of them, and ironically the only one looking to preserve the world if only for their own enjoyment. Funny enough too, in most of my older works, there is a figure or avatar that represents me as an outsider, and sadly Yuu Eye was that world's representation.

That is correct, yes. The gifts, or "helpers" are only there so long as there is a need for him to do what he is enslaved to do.
