More character design work that I've been picking away at as my daily warmups.  Stripes are misery, FYI.  Starting tonight on this month's sketches.

"Carpe Diem" is "seize the day", "Momento Mori" is "Remember you will die"

Seff

I took three years of Latin in high school, I am aware (and memento is actually the imperative form of meminisse, so it's "remember that you must die."). The whole memento mori motif is that life is brief, and death is inevitable. It's a reminder to live life to its fullest, to act as though each day or moment may be your last. This can mean different things to different people, like to some Christians it meant to always live as though you may face your final judgment with no chance to make amends, so always live a Godly life. To others, it is a reminder akin to carpe diem - which is the message that Vic's grandmother was trying to impart to her. Vic lived timidly, shrinking into the background. She decided to make a change, to strike out, to do something that everyone else told her was stupid or pointless, because she thought it was what she wanted to do and she didn't want to regret not taking the chance. If Vic listened to her friends, she would've thrown the rotting, moldy "magic" book in the trash like they suggested. She decided to read it instead.

2023-03-27 04:51:48 oh my god, i am so sorry. Tone of voice does not convey well online, and i was just trying to make a small joke about how you said seize the day in regards to the ring, and those are both really common latin phrases... I figured you knew what they meant, and my comment was just meant to be a small joke about phrasing and stuff. I'm really sorry you felt insulted and stuff >.<;; I am a poor communicator, and I often forget that. Thank you so much for taking the time to express how you felt! It helps me learn to communicate better. I'll do my absolute best to be more careful in the future >.<
