This time it's been some really involved shader work. If you're wondering where the "up against it" poll winners are, don't worry, they're nearly done rendering! Turns out having this complex a glass shader in front of everything and so many layers of effects on the girls bodies really kind of explodes the render time, even in E-Cycles. I think it'll be worth it ;)

I've been wanting to tackle a shower scene for a while because it's a perfect use for dynamic paint, and fun interacting elements in a material. Dynamic paint is actually a pretty unique feature in blender, although similar effects can be achieved in other software. it allows some objects to "paint" other objects, stores the paint pattern in a vertex colour map or an image sequence, and can then do a lightweight simulation on that paint so it can run, mix, spread, dry etc. Very good for water. It can be a little finicky though, since you're kind of dealing with a simulation.

The trick with a lot of effects work is to layer different techniques on top of one another, so there are noise maps on the glass to create a steam effect, but the dynamic paint erases that where they overlap, and both AJ, Rarity and the glass have multiple layers of droplet, bubbles and foamy smear PBR textures on them. There's also real volumetric foam in the scene, although it doesn't show up too much in the final render. There's also a material for

Also, if you're wondering how to smoosh, lattices! Same principle as in the soft body effects post. You've got to put several subdivisions scaled to zero on one axis to sharpen the interpolation, like this:

a final miscellaneous note: here's the vulva rig I've added for the new models:

each of the labia can be individually posed, and the clitoris has a lot of freedom to move around realistically. And the topology is much easier to deform around very large penetrations! Makes my life a lot easier. Animating the winners of the next poll will be fun...
