Alphabet Series, pt. 1: thumbnailing (Patreon)

I've got a new original fashion series in mind!

The Alphabet Series would be a series of fashion designs inspired by interesting colors, one for each letter of the alphabet. 26 designs is very ambitious, so right now I'm only aiming to finish A, B, and C and then we'll see how I feel after 3 of them. (I haven't drawn C yet so no your eyes are not deceiving you there are only 2 thumbnails)

I have a few motives for doing this series. For one, this year will be my 10th year of drawing designs for the Pantone Colors of the Year. I frequently think about ending the Pantone series and 10 years feels like a good place to stop. I don't know if I will, it really depends on whether the Colors of the Year continue to bore me haha. Whatever happens, this original fashion series has similar themes to the Pantone series so it's not too unfamiliar.

Secondly, you may recognize some of these designs from the untitled fashion game I was conceptualizing before Sugarplum Cafe. For those who don't recall, the game would take place at a fashion school where each student had a distinctive color that represented their fashion style; Glam Absinthe specialized in fairytale fashion with an adult twist and Glam Burgundy specialized in French historical fashion.

I put the project on hold because it was getting way too ambitious for a first game, but it's still a world I would like to explore once I have some experience and in the meantime I think this series would be a way for me to slowly tease it to everyone outside of Patreon! I had designed a handful of looks for the game that have yet to be posted publicly and it'd be a shame if they were never shown to anyone.

I had thought about making these YCH commissions so I could draw different people wearing them, but since A/B/C in particular are characters from the project it's a little weird for me. That said I don't have characters for every letter of the alphabet, so if I end up following through with this series I would like to open YCH commissions for the designs that don't belong to characters!

The third and final reason is that I want to get back into draggier fashion as I've noticed Instagram hasn't been enjoying all my Sailor Moon fashion, even though the Sailor Moon designs are pretty well received on Tumblr and Twitter. I think it's because I gained most of my IG following from my Drag Race designs, and maybe the magical girl x Drag Race overlap is not that huge, but my Steven Universe designs still do really well on IG and tbh that's magical girl-adjacent, so I don't know...

I don't feel like drawing Drag Race fanart anytime soon but I would like to try drawing some original drag fashion and see if Instagram still likes that. I used to design a lot of original looks and this series idea has been in my head for a while, so I might as well get started on it. And if Instagram still doesn't like it, then I'll just draw whatever I want after this!
