I know I've been silent about the passion project I wanted to work on (you can check the "project" tag if you're new) for a few months. It's still on the radar! But since I work at a gaming company, I need to get legal approval to work on this game as an extracurricular project, and that process has been taking a while.

The good news is that I'm very confident that the type of game I want to make will not conflict with any games that my company makes, so it's very likely I will get approval. The bad news is that while I have ideas, I haven't fleshed out my game concept enough for them to give me approval ^^; But they did give me the go ahead to flesh out the idea.

I'm thinking of either shrinking the scope of the Glam project, or switching to an entirely different concept. Part of why legal is saying "keep thinking about what you want to do" is because I kind of idea vomited at them lol and the truth is I'm still not super sold on what type of game I want to make. I was actually torn between two ideas, the first was this world of fashionable magical girls and the second was a world inspired by classical music.

My idea was that you would play as a conductor who uses music to navigate the world and encounter monstrous "living instruments"...it would be a short platformer like GRIS, so theoretically it should be small scale. Which is probably better as a first project, but still, creature and level design is not my strong suit so I was really intimidated, which is why I thought about starting the Glam project first originally.

But overall I think there is really some potential in classical music to create smth really inspiring, and since classical music is public domain I don't have to compose my own music. I don't know if any of you watched Animusic, but I loved that as a kid and the idea of "living instruments" would be my way of paying homage to that. Another reason I want to do this first is that my own youth orchestra conductor was a huge influence in my life and I want to make this game as thanks to him, but I'd like to finish this game before he dies because he's pretty old and smokes and drinks too much. Lol

So I apologize for the change in plans, but the Glam project is definitely not abandoned, I just want to hold off on it until I develop my skills even further to make it the best game it can be. I think this classical music project has more potential as a first video game project!
