My New Year's Resolution 2020 (Patreon)
Content
I wanted to write this sooner but I got hit hard with a stomach bug haha....
First, thank you to those of you supporting me on Patreon. It may only be a few, but just knowing there are people out there who want to support my work is truly heartwarming and I really really appreciate it.
In return, here's something I haven't shared on Instagram, and probably won't share publicly for a very long time.
This year I want to try and create a video game. Or, well, make progress on a video game. I work in the gaming industry and I know it takes much longer than a year to complete one lol
The thing is, sometimes I feel like the fact that I'm making designs but then nothing happens with them...well, the truth is that sometimes it feels like a waste. Many people have encouraged me to actually make my designs IRL, but it would take so long to make just a single design that I would most definitely get frustrated.
So I think the other option is, possibly, to use my designs as character designs. It would be nice to see some more fashionable character designs, anyways...
A game sounds a little out of left field, but coding was required for my degree and I enjoyed it a lot. I barely use it for my job and I've been itching to code again, so I thought why not use it for a passion project? And I think a game would be a fun way to interact with my art, more so than merch or prints or clothing.
I don't know what kind of game or story I want to make yet. It's so hard because there are a lot of ideas in my head swimming around. But once the game is planned out, the implementation will be pretty straightforward so I'm not too worried about the coding.
Anyway, I don't plan for this to impede on my usual drawings, it's just an additional goal for me to work on because apparently I don't suffer enough lol. I figure I've got my art process mostly down so I'll be able to keep developing that while I develop other things...I'm terrible at multitasking but it makes you feel soooo alive hahah. You probably won't see a lot of this game dev stuff either unless I make massive progress, but in case you were wondering about that walking animation, it was a test for this!
On a personal note, for a long time MPAR was my passion project, and before that it was other online communities...this year I learned that it's time for me to be passionate about myself, so I want to make something that I (and others!) will care about as much as MPAR. I hope I can do it!
