Hi  everyone!

Finally getting the Chronos high-speed camera out for some filming. This is one of the first shots I've done. It shows the reaction between bismuth metal and perchloric acid when heated, forming a brown/black layer that suddenly explodes. And it is very sudden!! Good thing I can go to higher frame rates with this camera, because man explosions are fast!

This is with the microscope lens. so it's very zoomed in (this is about as far as I can zoom out lol), the footage area is about the size of a fingerprint.

Need to work on getting the colours a bit better too I think... much to improve. But a sign of great things to come I think!!

Bismuth and Perchloric Acid - High Speed Camera Test

Bismuth forms a surface layer when heated with perchloric acid that rapidly explodes . this was one of my first attempts at using the Chronos 1.4 camera, with the microscope lens so it's very zoomed in! Will get it working with other lenses in future.

Nice, but for explosions you really need 100,000 FPS to capture any details. Kind of stinks since that's a whole new level that's extremely expensive, not sure how much it is to rent a Phantom but buying one is out of the question for individuals.

Yes explosions are damn fast, so won't get to see or calculate any det velocities or the like, but hoping to still see some cool effects!

Looks already very cool, can't wait to see some interesting shots with this! Maybe try filming a deflagration since those should be considerably slower, and fireballs tend to look quite cool in slomotion. And while the explosion itself might be too fast to film even at these framerates, the smoke, debris or fragments should be very visible. Looking forward to everything you'll do with it!
