‘If it bleeds, we can kill it!’ Major Dutch Schaefer. Invisible stalkers and deadly hunters ply the universe in search of that most elusive of all prey, Man!
Of course the natural successors to the xenomorph is the yautja predator, and Mark has given us some great looking models here, including a very ripped looking character who looks like he is liable to break out a quote at any moment! “Baby bottles, rubber bouncer! I bet you didn’t expect that?”
THE UGOKS!
The Ugoks were one of the first alien races encountered by humanity when they spread through the stars, and many major wars were fought between the hyper-violent Ugoks, and humanity. Many colonies were caught unaware by the vicious Ugok attacks, their society utilizing failing technology from an era long past to decimate their enemies.
In the earliest encounters, humanity found itself defeated time and time again. With each battle though, the human militiaries learned more of their opponents, and came to the realization that Ugok technology was not reproducible by their society anymore. This was to be the key aspect in a war of attrition that began against an entire species.
It would take decades of fighting by a coalition of core worlds military forces and untold numbers of deaths, but the Ugoks were pushed back to their home world by humanity. When the surviving Ugoks refused to surrender, their homeworld was bombed ruthlessly by one of the largest naval fleets ever assembled for a full 24 hours in what was known as the Calamity War.
The entirety of the Ugok Military would be defeated, and surviving civilians would have been next if not for the intervention of the United Space Nations, in particular members of the Vanguard Sentinels who had made contact with reasonable members of the Ugok race.
Thanks to the Sentinels, a treaty was negotiated for the Ugoks to become a subsidiary member of the United Space Nations, and thus a protected species going forward. There are some rumors that the Ugok were saved by the Sentinels in part thanks to the Ugok species being extremely resistant to psychic attacks including the depredations of the Elder Gods themselves.
In the centuries since, the Ugoks original culture has been entirely supplanted by a culture that practically idolized the human military forces that nearly wiped them out. Almost every facet of the Ugok’s culture is rooted deeply in human militarism, and for many young Ugoks, it is an honor to fight alongside humans in their wars no matter how grand or minor in scale.
Many of them can be found in The Fringe, plying their trade as mercenaries and bodyguards, jobs they love as it means they get to act proper military-like, and follow orders. Some companies, like Papsikel Heavy Industries have taken a great interest in marketing equipment towards the Ugoks, and many of them wear armor, and use weapons created for their larger frames, but just the same as their human comrades!
Ugoks are one of the few alien races who are on ‘good terms’ with humanity, and after so many centuries, many colonies are used to these honorable warriors who are known to never break a contract once it has been made. You better pay them though, as Ugoks like money almost as much as they like being soldiers; another thing they learned from humanity.
