Sylph saw the projection shots of May and liked them, so I suggested we try some on the shoot we had planned. I recently acquired a Godox AK-R21 projection accessory, and this was the first chance to try it out. This  shoot took place in Sylph’s accommodation, and we could not find a white wall with enough space to cast a big image, so it is mostly  bodyscapes - as her torso was all that could fit into the projection.

Lessons learned:

  • You need a fair bit of space to get a full sized image - but I have also purchased the wider lens for the AK-R21, so I can get a bigger image in the same space.
  • You need a dark space because the modelling light on the AD200pro is not very bright, and you need that for focussing the image and to see where it will land.
  • This can make using autofocus hard, so turn on focus assist if your trigger supports it (the Xpro does).
  • Remember to take the print out of all the patterns to make it easier to find a good one.

I am looking forward to trying it again in a studio.

Technical: Nikon D850 with Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro lens. Projection from a Godox AD200pro flash with round head fitted and an AK-R21 projection attachment.
