"Stormy Weather" - Melbourne just before the rain came

Last weekend I was supposed to do a shoot. Model and I had been talking for a while, we set a date to shoot before Christmas, but she got a migraine on the day, so we said let's shoot the weekend after New Year's Day, and I'll get in touch the week before. "Yeah that’s perfect lock me in!" she says.

So, the weekend before comes, I send a message, no response. A few days later I send another message, still no response. Grrr.

So I put a casting call out on a last minute creatives group on Facebook, and quickly get a reply from a model I wasn't really aware of, but who sent me some great sample photos. She said she was available Sunday, so I locked that in.

Then I heard from a model that is not really my style, but she and her partner have a studio in the next suburb to me that I wanted to check out. Saturday afternoon sorted.

Finally I get a message from a really tall redhead - I confess a weakness, I could not say no. Saturday late afternoon, 3 shoots sorted!

Then, panic! On the Friday before the weekend, New Year's Day, I get a call from the first model. She has mixed up her work roster, and is free Saturday, not Sunday.

So some frantic calls were made to models and owners of hired studios, and nervous waits to hear back from people with confirmations. But in the end it all works out. Saturday will be shooting model 3 in the morning and model 1 in the afternoon, and the visit to model 2's studio is pushed to Sunday. Phew!

So the models, in order of shooting, were

Nakita

A tall leggy redhead who wants to get into lingerie modelling. She was actually a bit inexperienced, and I had to give a lot of direction.

We shot 3 looks in the studio.

Gemma

Gemma arrived at the studio as Natika was leaving.

Gemma proved to be a totally excellent model. She had the looks, the poses, the expressions, the attitude, she was so easy to shoot.

We shot 4 looks in the studio, then headed down to St Kilda Pier and shot two more looks - a red bikini under the pier and a cosplay sea-witch theme.

Lana

So finally on Sunday I went to check Lana's studio. A self-styled Punk Princess, Lana and her partner run their studio only a few kilometres from my home. Convenient, but it was a tiny space, so I pretty much just took a few head shots of her.

And that wraps it up! I will post some sets of Natika and Gemma soon, and hope to work with both of them again.

Final note

Melbourne had a prediction of rain and storms for Saturday afternoon. Gemma and I were hoping that would happen to give more atmosphere for the sea-witch look, but it held off until just after we packed up and went home. The shot at the top of this post was taken from St Kilda Pier looking back to the city of Melbourne about 20 minutes before the rain.
