Knowing your girlfriend was sensitive to the weather, you followed your friends advice and bought her a Sun Lamp, so that she can cope better in this new environment- it was your and her first 'real' winter after moving from the coast, and you didn't know what to expect.

Sam really enjoyed the lamp, and began using it daily as she logged into work from home. Despite the somber weather and stresses of settling in a new town, she seemed downright chipper every day, she always seemed busy cooking something big and warm, or going out clothes shopping with her new friends- when had she been so spontaneous? 

Almost despite the volumes of new clothes she buys- you're amazed she's not freezing with how little she wears around the house. A strange behavior, but besides that- did she always have such broad hips? Since when did her butt stick out that far? And good lord, you don't even think her torso is as thick as those thighs? Where did all this mass come from? You've barely been able to spend time with her with your commute, and how much time she's out, it seems like just yesterday you finished unpacking with a girlfriend 100 lbs less endowed than the behemoth of soft flesh before you... 

You slowly make the connection, after sleepy, but startling afternoon. You settled in with a cup of cocoa to read your new book, while she laid across from you 'sun'-bathing in the windowsill. Annoyingly, as you finished each page, you had to keep readjusting to get comfortable. Despite being on a new foam mattress, it felt like you were on a deflating air mattress, with how it was slowly sinking in one corner..  one corner occupied by much more girlfriend than was there two chapters ago..

Maybe this winter isn't going to be as unbearable as you thought..
