the shot i made the other day in Madrid i titled 'we do this for the future'.  

it was one of those titles that came from nowhere other than putting words together in my head, but the more i think about it, the more i feel like i got it right.

the entire story of Madrid felt like we were writing one of the stories that people will tell about Becky and me after we're gone, i know it will be a moment i will always feel lucky to have shared with her.

our night in Madrid was nothing more than an inconvenience, we had an 18 hour layover between Ibiza and home, and we just thought it would be fun to go run around the city.

Neither of us had ever been to Madrid before and we got off the plane and into a cab and literally drove into the experience head first not knowing what we were going to see.

we had a very good hotel recommendation from our friend Leah, who we had just spent a wonderful week in Ibiza with.  let me recommend it to you.  if you ever go to Madrid please, stay in room 602 at the Hotel Francisco.  my wife had booked the room for me and when the concierge opened the door for us we could not have been more surprised and amazed.  the room itself was typical european modern, (let's not even talk about the glass bathroom door), but the real selling point was the L-shaped balcony that went completely around the north-east corner of the hotel, 4 stories above and overlooking a lovely pedestrian shopping center where the sun set right behind us and shined the most beautiful light on our corner and the rooftops of one of the most beautiful cities i've ever been to.

that corner view and the light made me see that shot of Becky, and that shot is how our trip to Madrid will be remembered.

we had our own experiences, they were wonderful, but those were just for us.  those are how we will remember the trip, but that photograph, that photographed that i titled, 'we do this for the future' is how our time there will be set.  when people talk about it, that will be what they are talking about.

that is the reason i do what i do.  i am a photographer because i get to make the moments that will hold all of the memories all at once.

how could i not be proud and humble at the same instant.
