Here is a setting preview of the mini comic I co-created with Fawn_Eyed_Girl.

Chapter 1. Not so scary.

The campfire radiated a comfortable glow around Kagome and her friends. She smiled as Shippo snuggled deeper into her lap, anxious for a little extra heat. Sango sat next to Kagome with Kirara close by her side; Miroku was settled on Sango’s far side; and Inuyasha sat apart from the group, eyes closed but ears open, listening to everything they were saying.

Yes, it was definitely a cool, relaxing evening. Kagome liked when they all sat together around a fire, cozy and warm. She found herself wishing Inuyasha would sit a little closer to the group, so she could be closer to him, too.

A tree branch snapped, and Kagome jumped, hugging Shippo to her more closely, then settled back into her seat. She remembered that it was close to Halloween, and found herself wondering how spirits were celebrated during the Feudal Era.

“Hey, Kagome!” Shippo said suddenly, drawing her attention, “can you tell us a scary story?”

Miroku and Sango looked up, questioning; Kagome put her finger to her lips and appeared deep in thought. Then, her eyes lit up in recognition of an idea.

“Sure, Shippo!” Kagome replied. “Do you know the story of the kuchisake onna?”

Everyone around the fire gasped; Inuyasha’s ears twitched.

“The...slit-mouthed woman?” Miroku asked, fear in his eyes.

Kagome nodded. Her eyes narrowed; her face twisted in an evil smile, and she raised her hands as she began her tale….
