These were all the steps taken to create the lastest artwork for the 5th anniversary of Undertale

  • 1- Sketch: As always, I start with a rough sketch where I figure out the right setting for the piece, perspective and landscapes are still hard to figure out, but I do try my best
  • 2- Flat colors: I get all the basic colors done for both the characters and the bg I make them sharp so I can tell better the shapes better when doing the shading.
  • 3- Gradients: I add a couple simple gradients to add some depth to the bg, even though it's very innefective on it's own it helps complement the pic during later stages
  • 4- Background details: With a soft brush I get all the proper colors for the shading of the mountains and the forest as well as the sky and clouds!
  • 5- Caracter details and shadows: I put all the shading and details on the characters while also adding shadows, I also remember to add the city in the distance!
  • 6- Refined background forest: At first I was intending to leave the forest the way it looked, but I thought it looked too bland and rough still so I added a special brush to make for most of the trees, by this point I had spent too many hours working on this so I couldn't be bothered if it still looked bland.
  • 7- Effects and final touches: I do the composition and add extra shadows and god rays to solidify the picture as best as I can.

I started this picture yesterday and took very little breaks inbetween to get it done for today it took me aproximately 7 Hours in total to finish it.
