These were all the steps taken to draw Lady Cha-Cha!

  • 1- Sketch: With the sketch I decided to take advantage of the snake like body the character had and tried to make her as flexible as possible, it was in here where I looked up several references to draw that mouth interior.
  • 2- Lineart: As always, I do all the clean lines based on the sketch and make sure there are no loose ends for when doing the coloring
  • 3- Basic Flat colors: I add the basic colors following the ref sheet, but I don't add all of them at once, instead I decide to divide the colors in different sections, using red as the default basic one.
  • 4- Full Flat colors: I add all the remaining colors required to fit the character design! I make sure each color occupies enough space as evenly as possible
  • 5- Gradients: I add several gradients here and there to give a little more subtle depth to the colors, while also trying to make them less vibrant.
  • 6- Scale details: Here I took my time to draw different types of scales for the gal, this was probably one of the longest processes I've done in this drawing, I also added a little texture to make it less bland!
  • 7- Shading: Of course I add the shadows and highlights to really add some depth to her (had some trouble with shading the scales though)
  • 8- Bloom effects: I add some rim light/bloom effects to make it look a little more rendered and natural! + I also color the Lines to fit the palette better
  • 9- Final touches: I add a few little effects here and there around her to give some extra charm ;)
  • 10- Environment: Finally I add some environment shadows and a little gradient to the bg too.
