OVERLORD: GOD OF THE NEW WORLD - CHAPTER 28 (Patreon)

[Alastor POV]

The days passed with me doing nothing but waiting for something to happen, until the day came. In a letter that found its way to me through magic, I was summoned by the Dragon Lord I had met during my time in the dragon kingdom. The invitation was clear, I was to come alone to the edge of the dragon kingdom, to face him and the other dragon lords in combat, a dance just for me. This was good and all, but I couldn’t help but wonder what his plan was with this invitation? Because if that was all there was, a bunch of dragons ganging up on me, their chances of making this entertaining was close to zero, I alone could oneshot creatures five levels below me with high tier spells without breaking a sweat, so killing them would be a breeze.

So it was obvious Brightless had a plan, one that he was at least somewhat sure would work, making this entire thing… all the more fun. 

With a smile, I grabbed the letter the Dragon Lord had sent, and walked out of my room, I had after all to plan a party.

Leaving Nazarick, I teleported to the dragon kingdom to face this party the dragon lords were throwing me. Perhaps I was being reckless, but I had a plan, just in case these dragons prove to be… more than I could chew, which was highly unlikely.

World items in essence are items that were made to break the game, to change the tides of a battle with the twist of a hand, meaning almost every world item, if not all was made to an offensive item. Meaning the world breaking skills they had, were in its majority offensive, all except for one.

When I made Penance I had in mind a simple idea, what would happen if I was killed? What would happen if I was defeated in this new world? I know, stupid ideas… me being defeated was laughable, but before becoming this I was human, and if there is something a human thinks about at least once a day it's about their own mortality. So, I created penance, a world breaking item… to save myself.

With that in mind, the skill that would become the first defensive skill on world item class, was created. Restore The Hope.

This skill worked as a backup point, restoring my body and mind, breaking anything that could possibly bind them, for example had my world item not block the effects of the brainwash of the downfall of castle and country, Penance would’ve forced a restore… erasing the brainwash, and restoring any damage in my body, if there was any.

There was a but… of course, like every world item skill this skill had a particular… unwanted thing, like downfall of castle and country and its long cast, mine was… a Subaru situation. Meaning? Well I didn’t get to decide where my restore point was created, needless to say… it could be anywhere since the Penance was created, but I had no worries, Penance was the weapon I created after reaching level 100, meaning I was already this powerful, so I had nothing to worry about.

The entire point of this all was, if I was killed by the Dragon Lords, again, highly unlikely, my beautiful world item would restore me… probably back to Nazarick, full health, and ready for vengeance.

[Brightness Dragon Lord POV]

I saw him approaching, walking towards the location I had given him, his power this time without any kind of restraint, floating freely like a bottomless lake, and as I watched this monster approach, I realized something, we were not going to be able to vanquish him.

How to defeat something that could only be described as a natural disaster made man. There was no way, and if there was... I just couldn't see it.

Perhaps our time had come, many say that no kingdom lasts forever, and no king lives without tasting defeat.  But still, I would fight for a small chance, a chance to stop this century-old renewing cycle of pain created by a being worse or equal to these players.

"We're not going to be able to win, right." Platinum commented.

With a smile, I shook my head, "No, I doubt it very much, even with our plan... I doubt we'll do much damage,"

Platinum laughed, "I figured... I've never felt so much magical power in one being..."

"Which leaves us... with only one option," I sighed, lowering my head to the sun.

"There's no guarantee that's going to work," Platinum replied.

"I know, but plan A we already know won't work... plan b.... that might work," I replied.

"If we do that... the ritual will kill us... ending our legacy, no more Dragon Lords..." Platinum sighed.

"If we don't do it... that same thing will happen anyway," I laughed.

"You know Cure, Darkness, Emperor and Sword won't accept," Platinum replied with a blank stare.

"We don't have to tell them... after all... you and I... and your father are the only ones who know how that ritual works," I replied.

"My father will try to use that... to his advantage." Platinum sighed.

"You let me take care of that... you take care of deceiving the others... if they think the ritual will bring us victory... they will do it without thinking." This ritual was our only chance.

“I suppose I could do that…” Platinum chuckled. “To think I would die here… I almost envisioned my death… more… relaxing, like going to sleep and never waking up.”

“I’m glad I was able to spice things up,” I chuckled.

“Won’t you say goodbye to your great granddaughter?” Platinum inquired.

“No, she doesn't need me, besides… what would I tell her... “ I laughed, “No… this is better, I die doing what’s best for the world… to think my first fight with you guys would be the last… how unfortunate,”

“Hahaha,” Platinum laughed, “Well… you always had a knack for being late… and you know what they say... better late than never.”

I looked at him, and smiled. "Only fools say that."
