Oh yes, you read that title right.

Yesterday Reed and I got together for a full day of photo fun. We started the day off early with a walk for the dogs at 6 A.M. before heading out to one of our old favorite beaches. It has been some time since my last trip to 'A Quiet Little Beach In Malibu', and even longer since I had been there with Reed. Almost five years now.

The last few days in Los Angeles, we have had the 'June Gloom' effect even though it is the end of August. As we were preparing for our shoot the previous night, I was excited that we would be able to have the beautiful overcast diffusion for the early morning shoot. When we hit the road, i was wildly displeased that there was not a cloud in the sky with harsh shadows, piercing highlights and hot sun rays blasting our skins. Whatever conditions we were given we would make work, but then as we were coming over the mountain pass into Malibu and shooting down the coastal side of the terrain we were pleasantly greeted with thick cloud cover behind held over the beaches by the very same mountains. We were both elated to say the least.

As we got down to the waterfront we were greeted with a higher tide, overcast light and no a single other soul around. Needless to say, mere perfect conditions. Reed and I spent about an hour on the beach shooting nothing but analogue. Now, that is mainly because I seemed to have forgotten every single SD card I own at home. After finishing up shooting, we both agreed it was probably for the best. So many beautiful exposures to share.

After an hour or so on the beach, the sun decided to come say hello, but it was not just the sun. It was accompanied by severe heat and intense humidity. In a matter of minutes we were both pouring sweat and decided to pack up and leave. With both of us tired from the early rise and a running around on the beach, we stopped to get a bit of coffee and a morning meal. When we pulled into the parking lot we saw a beautiful old Ford parking as well. Almost in unison, we got out of our cars and headed towards coffee. We offered to buy his coffee if we could take photos with his car, of which he obliged. Granted, the gentleman got a little too into the idea of us shooting with his car and started directing Reed to show some leg and put her feet on the door of the car. Maybe we ran into the older version of Tarantino, who knows.

What felt like an entire separate day, we shot in my studio later in the afternoon/early evening. It was a quick little shoot. One outfit, high heel boots and a hell of a lot more film.

These are the first images I have shot with Reed in over a year. So please, Enjoy!
