I have recently found myself being attracted to photographing neon signs with my SX-70. It started with walking by a neon sign after dinner with my good friend Derek in Downtown Los Angeles. I walked by the sign and thought "that is an amazing sign!" I had brought my SX-70 with me because I wanted to take a portrait of Derek, but it was too late at night and there was no natural light or any good light source around for that matter. So I pulled it out of my pocket, asked the employee if I could photograph their sign squared up and shot. Out came the exposure above. I am thinking about blowing it up to 30x30" and hanging it in my space.

About a week later I went out with my friend Cissy to lunch at Monty's Good Burger, basically the vegan In-N-Out. Inside, around the corner, through a hallway was a little sitting area complete with booths, a checkerboard wall and a neon sign. Same thing happened. I squared up, framed and shot. I love the look of these and I think I will continue to photograph neon signs that I love. Enjoy!
