Like a fish, Aya flipped her body around and swam into the hallway at the back of the mess hall. Watching, Chihaya kicked off the wall hard like she did at the start of a swim match and started to count up in her head as she followed the young marine girl.

(Thirteen, fourteen)

After passing by what seemed to be a galley and a sick bay, Chihaya made a few short sharp turns, and swam past an array of steel doors that had probably been living quarters for officers and men.

(Twenty-one, twenty-two)

Aya slipped through a door at the end of the hall that was slightly ajar and disappeared. Chihaya followed suit, leaning sideways and trying to keep her body as flat as possible as she passed through the narrow gap.

(Thirty-three, thirty-four)

Chihaya winced, and let out a moan in the water. She was at the end of what she could do. She exhaled almost all her air in a sudden burst and desperately held up her arms in a spasmic flounder. (Ughh) Chihaya, struggled, no longer quite conscious. (I caan’t)
