After the guests were done with their meals, Auntie prepared supper for the family. She had told Chihaya not to expect too much of a cuisine, but even so her stew and miso soup with broiled fillets were all delicious. Auntie talked about the upcoming Pa’antu Festival, and hosted a lively dinner conversation, but meanwhile Aya just gave occasional glances at Chihaya and sat and ate in silence.

"Thank you for the meal," Aya finished her plates, courteously put her hands together, and then headed out of the den quickly. Soon after, clutter of her wooden sandals on the pavement was heard out the inn’s back door.

"Don't go out to the sea, it’s dark. You’ll hurt yourself."

“I won’t. Just to the drying dock to get some cool air.”

Soon after, Chihaya was also done with her meal and Auntie offered her cold tea.

"Thank you, but I'm good now," Chihaya replied as she rose from her dining chair.

“Auntie, can I also go see the drying dock?”
