i had planned to do a bunch of vinyl this year, but thinking it over, i'm not so sure. not out of preference, but out of thinking on vinyl itself and what it is and what it does.

vinyl is immensely troubling ecologically at this point and i'm not sure how comfortable i feel continuing to add to that. i may do "one last record" as a send-off or something - "MORE ADVENTURES" is just becoming increasingly vinyl-unfriendly, too. maybe vinyl isn't the answer for it anyways.

i've been thinking on this for some time now - since benn's video dropped in 2019 - and just feel increasingly wrong putting my need to make ends meet over the world that i'll be leaving behind when i'm gone.

i've started using recycled and recyclable (or compostable) mailers, i'm pretty set on moving all of my CDs to recycled cardboard & egg carton and using LED printing as opposed to ink, which fumes off like crazy and is super wasteful, and in the cases where i do wind up using plastic (the discs/cassettes themselves) it's a lesser amount, and in the case of cassettes, the recording material itself can be reused for other purposes down the line.

while i can't completely cut out the crap, ideally i'd like to cut out as much as possible. i'll be ruminating on this more, certainly. cheers, and lots of love.

If you have any old cds collecting dust I’ll gladly take them(buy)off your hands, 😁😁 especially the older stuff

All my respect for acting, or rather, planning to cut back your impact on the environment we all share. Right on and much love! Can't say I won't miss the vinyls though ^^

im crying g and shidding, [EDIT] OK IT LOOKS LIKE IM BEING AN ASSHOLE FOR NO REASON HERE BUT IM NOT ROWAN IS A FRIEND AND WE ARE SHITS TO EACH TOEHR ADN IM just BEING A SHIT,,,,,,,,,,,,,

lapfox

i only keep 1-2 archival copies of everything i do. i never make more than i need to.

Vinushika

the physical artifacts linked to your work are as much an expression of you as the music itself, and if philosophically you are not "into" vinyl then you won't. As much as vinyl is "in" and popular right now, you gotta make the decisions that are You and not the decisions of What Sells. big respect, and take care

lapfox

this nails it yeah - i do love the format, it's great fun, but you can't just engage in fun knowing you're doing something wrong or against your own beliefs, it's misery and sours the whole thing. far better to part ways with the thing that isn't working.

Scezumin

Nothing I could say here that wasn't better-said by Vinushika and Andrew, but I appreciate your conscientiousness.

i know the feel, i'm terminally into owning media crap (less so lately thankfully) and it's a medium i enjoy engaging with. i just know that personally if i have the ability to go "no, 300+ records will not come into existence because of me", i'm probably gonna follow that thought

That's too bad, I really love your vinyl and all the great art that goes into them. I'm forever heartbroken I missed buying 2YR, and I love the art on the recent rotteen release even if I now have two sleeves for them :p. It's your decision, but I would love to see you continue with the format even if it is far less frequently.

For weeks, I have been genuinely looking forward to buying the vinyl of MA; I don't even have a device which can play CDs, though I settle for those when you release them just to have a physical copy. I do like displaying your colourful album artworks, too - some kind of poster release alongside it could be a great replacement so we can still display the album if we don't get the larger format of vinyl!

lapfox

and i've been looking forward to putting it out! but between the way the album is growing and the fact that it would feel bad about it, it's probably not the way forward - it would just sour the project. trust me when i say that records make up a sizable amount of my merch income for the past few years and that dropping it with nothing that can come close to the earnings is an enormous deal for me that should hopefully greatly eclipse any "dang, i wanted that". i do my darndest to avoid making money through things i consider unethical in their treatment of people and the world.

We gotta get pressing plants to switch over to recyclable materials. The fact that this stuff is still unregulated is weird, and feels like an unwanted artifact that vinyl has also carried through the ages. Just me, but I'm not nostalgic for the planet destroying parts of history.

It would be nice, especially if they can make records out of something similar to PLA plastic.
