so i've been a little upset with the big guys upstairs over this, and rightfully so. here's a full breakdown of why what they're doing (charging supporters a 35cent fee per pledge, rather than an across-the-board fee) is garbage: https://twitter.com/TomDarbyHey/status/938601593842421760

my plan WAS to change the tiers to accomodate and knock 50 cents off of each tier for you. i'd much rather take the hit than have you guys just suddenly be paying that additional fee next month (granted, this mostly hurts $1 pledges, which is arguably the backbone of patreon). however, i can't change pledge prices, and would need to make new tiers.

i've been looking into kickstarter's take on the service, drip, and may be interested in exploring it later on, or going with bandcamp's subscription service. as it stands, i'm still here and will keep doing stuff here, but will be rethinking pledge tiers and whatnot in accordance with both what patreon is doing and where i'm headed with my work.

please, let patreon know that this is not a good call.

Patreon has slowly been becoming worse and worse. I hope something better comes along soon.

Gave a brief tweet to them. I'd totally be on board if you decided to switch platforms, don't feed into their greed

I don't mind if you switch platforms either. I've never heard of drip before, but if it seems like a better option then maybe it's worth looking into 😄

The $1 or pretty much anything under a few dollars is going to be far too costly for patrons under the new shitty system. Platform has been going to shit for awhile and this is just yet another dump on patrons from them.

should we start downloading everything from here? i wouldn't blame you for jumping ship

i'm not about to hop off patreon - i can't really afford to right now, even! so i'm sticking around and doing what i can to get people bitching at patreon in the mean time. it's horrible that for patrons to take a stand against patreon, creators have to take the hit. it makes me feel a little bit like a hostage. thankfully none of my tiers are $1 so i'm not seeing the exodus that other creators are, but i'm still really unhappy with the whole thing. really hoping to see some good alternatives crop up as a result of, and having learned from, patreon's failings

Thankfully, Patreon pulled out of this and is "assessing other options," though I can't help but wonder what financial or management issues may have spawned this idea.
