My friends, stowage used to be a phobia, now it's a pleasure! Although this model made it slightly more difficult.

I started with the fuel drum, and I've read somewhere that German drums were mostly left in their natural metal color. I'm no expert, but it offered some nice textures and color combinations, so I went for it. Using some color references, I created the pale oxidized surface with acrylic paints using the sponge method and some wet blending. Then a subtle oil paint treatment in the form of a pinwash, and some colorful rust tones! Man, I really do love oils. It took them a day to dry to a completely flat finish, though.

The rest of the stowage was difficult in some places. Namely the box and field grey tarp underneath because that area is just so crammed... and there's a fragile rope in the way! So it required some careful dancing with a brush. Of course, all of the stowage was painted completely with acrylics. First base coated with a black brown mixture, then highlighted in roughly 3 or 4 layers. Everything is caught on video, of course!

Tomorrow I'd like to paint the tanker sitting in the turret because I'm really in the acrylic painting mood, and then the tank will be ready for a heavy mud treatment! I'm not really looking forward to it because I'm always afraid it will kill the contrasting surface too much, but hey... gotta make it look more authentic, less stylistic!
