My friends, I spent a few hours on a Friday evening with the KV-2 and a few slabs of styrofoam in my kitchen, sitting and meditating, figuring out what the diorama should look like. This was one of those models where I had no idea about the setting, story, or composition!

Well, the setting should be Leningrad during winter, that was for sure. And Leningrad means some kind of city building to make it clear it's not somewhere in the forest or in a snowy field... I considered several types of buildings, but everything seemed boring and repetitive... and then I had an idea, an industrial chimney!

At first I was reluctant because cutting such a shape from styrofoam seemed daunting, but I gave it a try. My first attempt didn't go too well, but after increasing the temperature I ended up with a pretty nice conical shape. Needless to say I kept carving the bricks until 3AM!

The base is just a simple block with strips of foam glued to it for those raised concrete and brick segments. That was my task yesterday. I also tried gluing a ladder made from wire, but it just barely holds in place. At first I wanted to add a ladder to the chimney as well, but I'll probably pass. Just need to add a few metal straps that hold the chimney together and I'll move on to the groundwork!
