Ma frens, Somua is ready for oil paints and some subtle rust effects. Tamiya decals are always very nice to work with and with the use of decal setting solutions you can conform them to pretty gnarly surfaces! Especially the rough turret texture or the lifting hook on the rear of the turret.
The only issue is that they're not stencils - which means I couldn't make them worn like the rest of the camouflage. I tried some distressing with a knife, some brush chipping here and there, but it's still not the effect I'd like. Oh well, let's pretend markings were applied, or re-applied much later!

Like I said the other day, I've got very mixed feelings about it, this tank must be cursed or something, but I'm staying positive! When you're trying new approaches, you're bound to hit a method that won't suit you. However, chipping the camo colors with hairspray and then painting the steel chips with a fine brush might be the way to go, combining the best of both worlds!

The next step will be an overall pin wash followed with some messing around with oils 😁

That roundel on the cupola is a targeting icon for dive bombers :0

Have to say, when you announced you were doing this, I was like, nah, not for me. Early war French armour does not float my boat. However, you have piqued my interest with the trippy turret camo. I shall be following this one with interest after all and look forward to the Nightshift treatment. It is great to see you back in the saddle so to speak!
