As Abraham Lincoln once said, the greatest sacrifice a man can make is to spray a layer of dust over his meticulously post-shaded camouflage (and because of this memorable quote they later named a tank after him, the famous M1 Abrahams).

But heyyyy, I kept it subtle okay? 😆 But subtle textured pre-dusting aside, I missed those days of real dirt and other debris on models, so I went on a little nostalgia trip. This time it's a combination of real dirt, dry sea grass and crushed leaves. It's a base coat for some very exciting effects though. Remember how the tracks looked when they were base coated and how they look now, I've got something similar planned for the upper hull 😊

I purposely kept the dust to a minimum on the turret. I'd like to have the roof relatively clean compared to the rest, and the sides have those post-shaded color gradients which would get hidden by the dust collected on the lower parts. Instead I'll balance it out with enamels which are still easier to control than acrylics and hairspray.

So what's next? Details... and then pinwash. I can't postpone the wash any longer since some of the contrast has been lost after this step 😁

Must be the automatic white balance on the phone, because it's mixed from XF-1, XF-2 and Deck Tan (so if anything, it has a slight dusty tint 😊)
