My friends, another project is off the bench!

How did I tackle the scorched ground effect? I'll leave that up to you! What I can say subjectively, this must be the weirdest vignette I've done so far. The Panzer II looks almost cheerful compared to the groundwork 😆

I'm personally quite pleased with the results... it definitely has some character. I worked with several reference photos for scorched grass (mostly large burned meadows), and in fact the whole groundwork, including the terrain profile, was inspired by one such photo, but I think I already mentioned that. What intrigued me was how the burned ground would suddenly stop at the edge of the road, in most cases leaving some vegetation around it untouched. It creates some interesting contrast, but I made sure to make the transition from "untouched" to burned grass more subtle. It's far stronger in real life, almost like an invisible wall stopped the fire!

Overall, if I'm honest and critical, I like the base, but the model doesn't fit well with it. That's why I didn't fix it to the ground. But that's just how I see it at this moment - you know, sometimes you just have to give things a few days until you start to like them 😁 What's the culprit? Probably the fact I had no specific idea about the setting until I was finishing the tank. It's not that I was doing the base just for the sake of doing it, but I had no concrete vision, and it was only somewhere down the road when I came up with the idea of doing something new, so hey, how about scorched ground? I hope that makes some sense.

Does it bother me to a point where I'd go and rework it? Absolutely not. In fact, my body is SO ready for another project, and this time it's gonna be something epic. Truth is, I've been soaking up tons of inspiration for the next one, and this time it's definitely going to be a diorama - 3 figures, piece of a building, maybe even a small creek! I'll show you everything in the next post!

I like it. The groundwork draws your eye to the Panzer II.
