My friends, this time we're playing with VERY contrasting Panzer Grey! One thing that slightly bugged me on the BMR-3 was the rather dark color of the vehicle, although accurate, but still a bit on the darker side for my taste. So I definitely wanted to avoid that here and went to town with post-shading. As it turns out, German Grey from Tamiya HAS a blue tint! But it only starts to show when you lighten it up a lot 😜 It wasn't my intention as I prefer a more mono-chrome grey, but hey I'm not complaining.

You can see how I painted it on photos 5-8, first an overall coat of German Grey with a few drops of white, then a first layer of post-shade with pure German Grey, then a Grime pass around hatches, wheel hubs and turret ring (not over the whole model like before) and then just lighter and lighter tones of grey. I finished today's session by spraying the whole model with a few passes of lacquer thinner to smoothen out any possible imperfections and spots of granulated paint.

A base coat like this will have more POP once the weathering is finished, and the Pz II is a small tank, so at least the paint makes it look slightly bigger... and heavier, damn, Panzer Grey makes any model look heavy and METAL 😁

Next are details painted in other colors such as the MG cans, the metal box on the rear, the bucket, etc. Then I'll add decals and seal it all with satin varnish. And then... we'll see how much I'll manage to do, but I'll probably wrap it all into a video and continue after that.

This is looking great. I am working on a Tamiya 38(t), so this is perfect for inspiration, just wish I had seen this *before* I started painting it. 😞

Love the mottled effect on the paint work, free hand airbrush or stencil ?
